Please join me for a Spoonful of Fun and Creativity as we alter a vintage silver spoon. We will learn to make our own nests from gatherings such as tissue, paper, twigs, and string. Also, as a part of our class, we will learn wire wrapping with beads for the handle and the silver wire nest holding precious pearl eggs. Lastly we’ll finish off with a sentiment tag secured by a vintage button. Your class kit will include all the materials needed for this one of kind art creation. You may bring some of your treasures and trinkets if you would like - but I will be supplying all that you need. Here are the details.

Thoughts of Summer...

Summer 2011- my article appears on page 128

It's hard to believe someone can be thinking of summer right now. Our winter came back with temps in the 30's for the last 3 days. Of course, we have rain today instead of snow but my mind is drifting to summer- the beach, the sand, the gardening and of course Sew Somerset. You may be asking yourself "What does Sew Somerset have to do with summer"? That is an awesome question - I found out this past week that several pieces of my work will be featured in the Summer issue of this incredible publication. I am glad someone's thinking about summer. All kidding aside, I am truly honored and blessed when people like my work. When I like what I make/create, that is reward enough but when someone else likes it- that is truly a blessing. It's like a seal of approval. In the words of Sally Fields- "You like me...you really like me." Although my work may not be Oscar worthy, it is Sew Somerset worthy-- and that is good enough for me!!! Be looking for great sewing notions and samplers (from me) when the summer issue hits newsstands June 1st-It'll be here before we know it. Until next time,

It's Monday..a fresh view for a new week

This Monday morning greeted me with a beautiful sunrise, happy hens, wonderful family and a fresh inspired outlook. I spent all day yesterday (albeit that I have a spring cold in the winter) cleaning and reorganizing the rest of my studio. This all started after the Holidays...now keep in mind that I didn't go through everything...just the things on the floor, and the lower shelves. There were days, I just didn't want to venture in-too much stuff, not enough time, too many other avenues calling my name. But yesterday, I had had enough...So I spent the whole day finishing what I had started. It feels great to start and finish something, there is a quote in my studio that says,

Beginning is easy. Finishing is hard.

That is absolutely true! I have many projects that would so illustrate that beginning is easy. Pinterest, Magazines, blogs, friends, shops all encourage and inspire us to start something. But where is the encouragement to follow through, to not give up- to finish what we start be it in arts and crafts, in our home, in relationships, in the tough things of life...I found that what these sources, for the most part, leave out are the struggles, challenges, lessons and the victories that were experienced in order to get to that finished photograph, project or relationship. We see only a snapshot of time, of something well done. So where do we go to find the tools to not just begin but to finish and finish strong? For me, it is God's letter to me - His Holy Word. He gives us, through many writers and experiences of life, that he is with us from the beginning and he will complete a good work in us (Phillipians 1:6). Paul tells us to run the race (of life) and to finish even when it is difficult. We don't have to finish first, we just need to finish. (2 Timothy 4:7-8) Peter is one that had a lot of struggles with his race and yet the Lord let us see those struggles so that we may be encouraged to continue on even in the midst of mess. Peter gave us 2 wonderful books in the New Testament that showed he finished strong. King David in the Old Testament definitely had created a messy situation with Bathsheba- and yet the Lord, after discipline, encouraged him to finish strong. After all, he was a man after God's own heart. And so are we...well I am a woman after his heart. The idea is that God put in our hearts- the same love, joy, peace, compassion, kindness, perseverance, faithfulness, goodness, and self-control (just to name a few) that he has. We, when living by the His Spirit, can share these things, we can be encouraged to begin and we can persevere to finish. So when the task in front of you looks daunting, perhaps the best place to look for our inspiration and encouragement isn't an app on our phone, but it is God's letter to us--(Oh by the way I do have an app for that - the Bible app!!)

So whatever you have begun, whether it is a scarf to crochet, an apron to make, a child to raise, a marriage to build- there will be struggles and challenges but also joys and victories.

Continue on so that you will experience the joy and the strength that comes from finishing.

Paint Spill 101...

Paint Spill 101...

What do you do when a gust of wind blows over and spills 1/2 of the quart of Annie Sloan Paint on your garage floor?

Do you ...(a) freak out because you are watching $$$ become a puddle?

(b) scream knowing that you are creating another messy situation?

(c) call your kids to come and help paint everything in sight--knowing that paint on the floor is still wet paint that can be used?

(d) all of the above!!

D is the correct answer. There are stages in spilling like stages in loss -only not quite so deep and devastating. I was painting a bookcase in the garage today albeit that the weather was gray and windy but only 70 degrees--perfect painting weather. I was working on the underside because the first coat of the topside was dry when all of sudden a huge West Texas gust of wind blew through my garage - the only problem is I live in North Central Texas and my Annie Sloan Paint was on the floor near where I was sitting. And in a moment, no a second over 1/2 of my brand new filled to the brim quart was all over my floor- I freaked out, I screamed and then called my girls from the garage and said "Do you want to paint?" So we did..we painted the rest of the bookcase, a set of paper mache boxes, easter eggs and a few other little items.

Paint brush in hands, we saved the day. Only a few causalities..a disney world red jacket, a pair of workout pants and Savannah's freshly manicured nails. Oh and the new spot on the floor of our garage - but at least it's quality paint and such a pretty shade of Old White.

Now to wash the paint off our hands, hair and feet - yes I paint barefoot -Don't you?

Once again, let me say thank you for stopping a moment, reading and hopefully finding something to help your daily living. I love reading the comments -it has been such fun tagging along with Tim and you. Thanks again.

Oh how I loved this tag..Tim's final tag was full of wintry wonderland feel. He did however use a frozen Charlotte (he calls them fractured, which for me is worse:) which is one vintage embellishments/ephemera that I can't seem to like. I am such a girly, girl that I loved my dolls to be whole - my sister on the other hand thought one of my baby dolls needed a haircut and to have her eyelashes plucked...that however is not about today's tag. We will save that story for another day when that is the topic at hand. Right now it's about this wonderful tag. I did have to make a few switches as there were a few things he had that I didn't know even existed. I must have been under a pile of paper, fabric or buttons when he introduced tissue tape paper. I immediately ordered some for me, on Santa's behalf of course. I did use the tissue tape for the background and it worked wonderfully. It is truly a fun tape that doesn't behave like tape. It's wonderful. My embellishments were different as I used a Christmas tree instead of poor frozen Charlotte...I do love how it turned out...here are a few tips for this tag.

*I used thin tissue that I use for wrapping. I made the tissue flower just as Tim had done, but then sprayed mine with a spray adhesive and the poured German glass glitter all over it. Beautiful if I do say so myself.

*I used real hymnal words from "Joy to the World" I thought it tied nicely with the tree and just the feel of the card.

*For the tinsel, I used the little bit of scrap yarn I had left. If you happen to see Fun Fur or something similar in gold/silver or metallic- snatch it up because it works great.

*Instead of leaves, I used scrolls from Tim's grungeboard line. They seem to work well behind the tissue flower.

Each day, I woke up and checked fb to see his post, then sat for a few minutes and saw his steps to his tag and then began to plan my steps. I would run back and forth from the house to the studio to grab just a few minutes here and there to work on each day's tag. I was determined to do each tag, each day and then blog about it that evening. As I was working today on this tag, I thought this is the last and final tag. I did it..I actually carried through and finished the projects at hand. Those particular thoughts, lead me to think of the Lord and how he begins a good work in all of us. Unlike me with projects everywhere, some almost finished, some barely started all beckoning for attention, The Lord begins and finishes what he starts. He understand the work that needs to be done and the wonderful reward that awaits us when the work is finished. I am so grateful that the Lord doesn't just add me to his "to do list" and hopes that he gets to me. You and I are at the top of his list each and everyday. He knows what needs to be accomplished for that day and if I am willing, seeking and learning, and open to his will, the work continues just as planned. I praise him for his wisdom, which is far greater than mine now or in the future. But each day, I can be confident that even though my to do list is still miles long, there is a list where I have been taken care of, sought after and loved. It takes deadlines, someone prodding or encouraging us to finish..For Paul it was his love for Christ that compelled him to keep the fight, run the race and finish what was started. I hope that in my life, it is Christ that compels me to finish the important things... Seeking his Word, loving my family, serving others and living for Jesus. I know That he who began a good work in me will see it through...

On this Sunday, I hope you had a time of worship, reflection and rest. Even though Sunday is no longer the Sabbath, I believe the Word does encourage us to rest and reflect on God's love for us and what he has done for us and then we can go with renewed focus and touch others. While I spent time in my studio today, working on my take on Tim's tag, focused on the techniques today, I just couldn't get the hang of the UTEE with shrink plastic. I have used UTEE in the past and also shrink plastic (remember watching them through the oven door-wasn't it magical??) but never together. I liked the fact that today's tag was simple, not frantic, not too many steps--it was restful!! At first when I finished it, I didn't think it was that great..maybe too simple, not enough pizazz. But the more I look at it, while I am typing, a sweet calm comes over me. The gentle eyes of Santa, the soft background, the words "Peace, Love and Hope..." The words we all long to not just hear but to have those be evident in our life. Sometimes the simple things elude us in the midst of the busyness, the noise, the wants...But the Lord has told us several things that we must take to heart and hold on to and then hold out to others...

"The Lord blesses his people with peace."

When the Christmas season is over and others have packed up their holiday cheer, when their hearts of gratitude will come out again next year or when their thoughts will turn to Jesus again at Easter - remember that the Lord remains with us, his perfect peace is extended to those that love him, his perfect love is given to all and in him , we find rest from the wearies of this life. He refreshes us each and every day. Thank God for the simple, restful days for the frantic, difficult times come, you and I can reflect back on those daily gifts from the Lord. I love my tag not for it's intricacies, but for the simplicity, so alsothe days of rest - Simplicity!!

On the 10th tag of Christmas...

Today's Tag was an all time favorite. I love that Tim brought a technique that my mother showed me when I was a little girl. We now have so many tools, products out there in the market than we forget the simple things, the basis for art and the ability create one of a kind art. I did make a few changes-I made my own banner with a decorative cutter and folded the ends to create a banner. Of course, I love the roses wrapped with holly and some tinsel yarn (leftover from a crocheted scarf I made). The facets were so wonderful to make. The transfer technique use mailing tape (the clearer the better) and the image you want to transfer and warm water in a small bowl and a paper towel. To create this cut your image a little larger-then cover the image with the tape. Dip in warm water and begin to rub the backing away from the image. When you get a "squeaky" clean feel and nothing else is rubbing off, it's done!! You now have made your own transfer! I followed Tim's tag with adding the metal foil tape and it looks awesome. In fact, Savannah , my 17 year old, thought they would be pretty necklaces!!
I didn't switch too many things - the stamped sentiment instead of the alpha parts, the flowers instead of the bells. It was a great experience!!

Now for the reflection- While working on the transfers, I thought of how much my mother has taught me in art, crafts, being a woman, a wife and a mother. She has taught me so much about life and how to love God fully. I think that is why Scripture commends older women to teach younger women how to love their husbands and children, to manage their days, their priorities and to reflect the Lord in all that they do. No matter where you are in life, what season you are in there is always someone watching you, learning from you whether you realize it or not. take opportunity to see teachable moments- make them part of your daily speech, your daily activities-to put it simply in our daily living. I am also reminded that when we share what we know, what we have learned - the lessons will never be void. It may take years to see the benefits, to reap the reward but just as the tape transfer was taught to me when I was little, so were the lessons of kindness, service, commitment and the love for the Lord. Years later, the lessons that lasted are the ones which truly make a difference in my life. Love and commitment permeate my family, kindness is extended to all and the love for the Lord grows daily. It's great to be a life long learner, just make sure your teaching along the way.

"Teach the older women to reverent in the way they live,...to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind,..." Titus 2:3-5

Did you see the time I posted last night? Yes it was around 11:30 pm...My computer ran out of space - you could say I stretched it as much as possible. It wouldn't allow me to do anything. So off I went to the Apple Store on a busy Friday to see if the genius bar could figure out what I could not - which wouldn't take a genius--I am computer challenged but still attempt to learn and understand "to stretch my mind" as it were. The guy who helped me was wonderful -my computer still can't upload photos, save downloads or sync phones at this moment but soon when the apple guy comes to the house to give my computer more memory all be well. Wouldn't that be great for us if someone could add a ton of new memory space....On to the tag before I forget why I am blogging today....

Tim's tag took a walk through memory lane for me...I love to emboss!! And to layer emboss is a double treat and the effect is just beautiful. Of course, I didn't have the wonderful die he used -his Halloween candelabra. Who knew that you could use just a portion and get a candle that is perfect for the holidays...oh my list is getting longer for Santa.

On this tag, I first thought I would go french with the Eiffel tower and Joyeux Noel but it wasn't coming together. So I looked for inspiration and found it in a stamp... true gifts. Then the tag took shape. Here are a few tips for this tag...

*I embossed two cards, one for the background and one for the tag with the sentiment. I loved using the vintage photo on the saying and then trimming it to a fancy shape and then using the snow cap paint dabber for a little Christmas snow.

*This tag played to simplicity -not a lot going on but with the background technique - an amazing finish.

As I worked on this tag, especially on the embossing technique, I began to think of all the things I have forgotten, the tips, the techniques, the tools - It was a great refresher. We all need to be refreshed from time to time. Perhaps now even during this what is supposed to be "the most wonderful time of the year", remembrances come to mind, some happy, some sad, some painful. Stress reaches a high during this time with unreal expectations, lofty but unattainable goals, a lot of gift lists to fulfill without a lot of time or resources - Wouldn't it be nice to feel refreshed, renewed instead of run down and weary. Good news - just like Haggar in her time of despair, the Lord remembers us. - Not our flaws or our failures, he remembers our faithfulness. He looks upon us with love and kindness and renews our spirits and gives us strength to journey on but not limping from the heavy bags that weigh us down but with wings like eagles so that we may soar. So if this time of year finds you travelling down memory lane and you are in need of refreshment, no Starbucks needed - simply wait on the Lord and he'll be right over-

Santa Claus!!!

First of all, let me thank each one of you who might happen across my blog and stop in for a visit. I blog hop and sometimes leave comments or begin to follow but many times I just read and enjoy and move on. So if you are like me, thanks for stopping by and I do hope your time was well spent. On today's tag...Tim's tag was a little out of my comfort zone - actually a lot out of my comfort zone. It's funny how we gravitate to what is comfortable, fitting, goes with our sense of style, even in the world of art, especially in the world of art. Yet, I loved Tim's tag and at the same time, it challenged me to go beyond what I normally do. In fact for today's tag, I had very little if any of the things he used. I did have the inks, paper, grungeboard -but that was it! Still wanting to use his tag as an inspiration - I needed to reach way out...the finished tag still is as "Steampunk" as his but it does have some of the elements. Clock pieces, staples, a little more of an industrial feel than that of sentiments with flowers and fluff. So it was very fun and I loved it! My comfort zone just got a wee bit bigger. So here are a few switches...

*For the gears and watch pieces, I used a sizzix BIGZ die of a snowflake and then some smaller snowflake dies along with a silver and rhinestone brad (ok, so not so industrial, but I tried)

* For the stamp of the men, I most definitely did not have that stamp so of course I used dear old St. Nick with a little rhinestone on his cap and a little bit of snow cap paint around the outline.

*My 25 was used in place of his word element and I did add holly and some crystal chandelier prisms with the ribbon.

*For the ribbon, I swiped the distress inks that I used for the back ground and then misted with water, scrunched and heat set..and voila, custom colored ribbon.

This tag was a reminder to me that I can't always stay where I am comfortable, sure and at times even rest on my laurels. There are times in life that stretch us, make us grow and show us that we really can do more than we believe to be possible. Times such as births, family transitions, new jobs, new places, new people are some of those stretch times. My hands can turn the pages of the Bible and find people who were comfortable and then God took hold of their lives and stretched them to be more, do more and believe more. Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, Jeremiah, Paul, Peter, Mary, Martha are just a few of those comfortable people. These people and many others, from scripture and even those in your midst are here to show us that God can accomplish the impossible- He has power that is limitless and righteous filled with love. He wishes to make us more than we think we can be- He chooses to take us beyond the comfort of what we have always done but to create what he knows we can do. Perhaps it as simple as speaking a good word to a stranger, giving of our time when time is precious. No matter what it is there is one thing that is certain, when God chooses to move in us it will be something we have never done and it will be quite comforting in the end as we know God is with us each step of the way...that is true comfort!

On the 7th tag of Christmas

Can you believe it? I think I have posted more in the last 7 days than perhaps all year...This has been so fun!! I hope you are enjoying the journey with the tag art and the inspiration from the heart. It's amazing to me how we can truly see life lessons everywhere. Jesus was so good about teaching that to us, wasn't he? His stories and lessons were for all people, at all times and for all times. He spoke to us right where we live...OK more reflections later. Now for the tag....

Each morning I check Tim's blog to see what amazing tag he has created, what supplies do I have and of course, what I don't have -sometimes the latter seems to win out more times. Yes, for those of you who have been to my studio, you think that is an impossibility but trust me, it's true. I did love today's tag, the video he included and all the wonderful instruction. the inking and rolling of an unmounted stamp is incredible!! Of course, I had some trials and errors, but it was a great time of creativity, inspiration and reflection in the studio. Here are some tips and switches for today.

*I didn't have the stains for the tag, so I used my own perfect pearls mister (1-2 scoops of perfect pearls and water in a mister). My background turned out wonderfully. I love it!!!

*With the glassine paper, I had grand intentions... I purchased some of his glassine envelopes earlier and had no idea what to do with them. But when something says "TIm Holtz", I buy it. I did try his technique, I had all the alcohol inks, distress inks, heat tool but I just couldn't get it right-it wasn't for me. It was a no to the tag today :(

*LOVE the embossing in black!!!

*The things I used for trinkets and embellishments- floral christmas picks(Michaels 1/2 off!!), holly leaves in the "make it Christmas" section at Hobby Lobby, seam binding and then, I used my perfect pearls mister on ribbon and scrunched and heat set it. LOVE it!!

*At the top of the tag, I used a distressed gold medallion-first, punch a hole in center, align with hole and thread your ribbons through. I also found a little coper bell - who knew that was in my stash??

When the glassine didn't come together as Tim's, I thought to myself "I have the products, the tools, the knowledge, the experience and the desire..why didn't it work?" Too often in life, we are faced with the same questions- "I can do this, I am ready to accept the challenge, I want to help, serve, teach, I want to_________(you fill in the blank)." But for God's own choosing, it is not meant to be- we can be sorry, upset, downcast, angry or accepting. This is King David's lot- He desperately wants to build the Lord a temple (2 Samuel 7 and following). He realizes that he lives in a Palace made of Cedar and the LORD dwells in a tent. He has the resources, the tools, , the knowledge, the desire but the LORD says "Not You". Perhaps we would say it this way - "Thanks but no thanks." David at first is downcast but it doesn't last long - He knows that his son, Solomon, a man of peace, will build the temple, not a man of war (David). He accepts his limitations. He acknowledges the sovereignty of God and the praises him in the midst of his "No". My question for us is "Do we accept and praise him in the midst of our "No?" I hope that in my daily journey with the Lord that my praise is not conditional based on a yes but unconditional just as his love is for me, even when the answer is "Thank you for being willing, but not this time, not you."

Some may try the glassine and it will work beautifully, others will try and not yield the same results but rest assured your tag will be wonderfully your own. Some may try to accomplish certain things (perhaps things you want to do) and they will succeed and you will not, but rest assured that if the Lord is leading, your life journey will be your own just as he thought it would be- Wonderful!

On the 6th tag of Christmas...

I love how Tim changes the creativity each and every day. Of course, I think that is the definition of creativity. Yesterday the tag was all about transparency and what is going on in the back of our tag that shines through so that we see in from the front. It was a favorite of mine thus far. But today he focused on what is happening on the front - gaining a new color dimension with paints, dry emboss, then clear heat embossing...a simple element for the embellishments and it still amazes me on the results. I remember back around 20 years ago or so, I stood over my electric stove embossing 100 Christmas Party invitations ( I should have asked for a heat tool for that year's Christmas) ...When the powder turns that brilliant almost glass like look, time and time again, it still makes me think -"Oh, wow there it goes." I changed a few things from Tim's original but that is the nature of creativity and inspiration. Here are my tips and switches....

*Instead of Paint dabbers, I used alcohol inks. This was due to 2 reasons, as I was getting the dabbers out, many of them had dried out :( and of the ones I did have, the colors were not "Christmasy" -the inks worked out great!

* I used my stazon after I sanded some of the color away.

* I used grungeboard to make my letters and then painted them and added stickles and silver brads.

As I was embossing the tag, I thought of how that powder doesn't look like much, in fact it looks like it will just disappear but when the heat comes close, we see those powders become clear, brilliant and then add depth to that which is already there. It reminds me of those that uplift us by a kind word, a nice gesture or yes, even a huge undertaking to help us and bring out the best in us. I thought of the refining process of our faith that Peter writes about in 1st Peter. As we are refined like gold, we reflect his love, his nature. I love that the Lord brings us light and life. It is his light, when poured over us, reflect all goodness and grace. It reminds me of the love God has for me. I am again reminded of a song perhaps not so lofty as yesterday but appropriate none the less--

"'This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine..." -- Are you singing along with me... I hope that your life reflects his light and that it brightens and lightens someone's else load. When Jesus, the King of Kings, chose to bring us light, it began in the manger. What a JOYful time of year this is.

"When a King's face brightens, it means life; his favor is like a rain cloud in Spring."

On the 5th tag of Christmas...

my inspiration tag...

I am so excited to be doing this little blog tag- along with all the creative taggers and of course the master tagger, Tim. You need to hop on ver to his blog and see all the wonderful inspiration that is happening. today was no exception. I loved the transparent technique on the plastic with the reverse imaging stamps- of course I have never seen those awesome stamps of his (hum, maybe that could be a stocking stuffer?) but I had done a little fragment last year with a snowflake stamp. It is such a fun technique. I need to add that more into my projects. I also didn't have today the die for the holly wreath. I have wreaths on my cricut cartridges but grungeboard doesn't cut as clear on the cricut as it does on the Big Shot. So I changed the direction of the tag....So here are a few of my tips and switches for this tag.

*I used a background stamp and a variety of green shades of alcohol ink for my plastic. I stamped the sentiment with stazon on a small piece of plastic and adhered it to a piece of white cardstock embossed with a snowflake texture plate.

*For the mitten, I adhered adhesive backed metal sheets to grungeboard, die cut the mitten and then embossed with the same snowflake texture plate.

* I used some fun yarn, pearls and silver bling to finish the tag...So much fun!

Of course, today the tag was about transparency...So my thoughts turned to a transparent life. I don't mean that everything we do or say should be evident to all..there are some aspects of our life that need to remain intimate, personal and even perhaps only God knows those thoughts, those struggles. But as Christians, we are to share Christ and the life changing message of redemption and grace. How do we do that? Just as the tag needed to be wiped away to reveal the transparent nature and make room for the white tag, our life needs to be wiped clean of self and make room for the nature of Jesus. Notice that the plastic tag kept some of the original colors. Just as we keep the wonderful gifts and talents that God gave us. These need not be wiped away but used to their full potential. I am reminded of an old hymn written in 1916 that echoes this very idea...

"Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me, All His wonderful passion and purity; May His spirit divine all my being refine. Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.''

On the 4th tag of Christmas..

my inspiration tag...

Today's tag proved quite challenging...It didn't start out that way. When I awoke this morning, I immediately checked Tim's blog for the 4th tag... I loved it (is that really a surprise?) not just for the inspiration but that I had the dies he used (minus the 25...I used the wish die instead), the grungeboard, some of the inks, and of course trinkets and treasures abound in my studio. The few things that I didn't have (such as the distress stains) did not appear to be a big deal.., But then the process began...I painted my grungeboard before Church and set out a few things. When we came back after lunch and a quick errand, I headed for the studio. Here's where it began to be a challenge...I die cut my first snowman (yes this in snowman #2) then die cut the wish...fit perfectly... just backwards..So I began the painting over and began to work on my tag -I played around with the few stains I did have along with a little perfect pearls...it was progressing but then my ink pads were dry, my snowflakes smudged, the plastic snowflakes (see Tim's blog) didn't look right. Of course I had glued them in the wrong place..then when I went to give the snowman a little color- his color didn't go with the tag....What to do? Stop...Clean the studio for clarity and then help Savannah with her Character Analysis of Moll Flanders (have you ever read such stories of mistress and mayhem..I digress.) Well then it was time to get back to the tag. I looked at the clock-to my surprise it was 4:30, I was no where near done with my tag... When things don't go quite right in the studio, I scrap what I am doing and start over.

I liked my snowman and thought what does he need? A soft palette, some snow and of course some winter roses...and a little sparkle.

So where did my afternoon of challenges take me...Sometimes in life, we seem to be in the right place and the right time but something continues to get in the way or we just can't get the job done, the to do list finished, somewhere something just doesn't work, it goes wrong...We think "Is it me? What did I do?" I am reminded of a wonderful example from the Old testament of this very thing - the right place, the right time, the right job...but Joseph found himself in a pit, in a prison and then many days (years) later something wonderful happened - he found himself in a palace. Joseph didn't know that sometimes the right place, the right time and even the right decisions do not get us to the right destination. There are circumstances and choices others make that affect us and we have to start over, searching for clarity but never losing sight of what the Lord would have us do. Just as Joseph couldn't explain why things didn't work out the way he thought they would, He kept on doing the things he knew to do. And with the Lord directing his steps, his destination was so much grandeur that he could ever imagine - a Palace.

Where will his directing lead you? His destination will surpass our wildest dreams..

On the 3rd tag of Christmas...

my inspiration tag...

Today's tag posed a challenge for me as I didn't have the Christmas Stamp (that Tim used), the distress re-inkers or the holiday greenery die but I did have the twine, the jingle bell and the inspiration. Also, in my studio are pounds of paper (all in nice drawers or piles of pads), drawers of stamps, inks and of course treasures. Believe it or not, I did have the cut and dry felt he used. I am so glad for a refresher course on how to use that stuff. Now I know why I bought it (a long time ago, I might add). So I'll be on the look out for re-inkers and cool stamps to use for the cut n dry felt. But I did have fun with my tag...So here are a few tips to get this inspired look...

*A long time ago in the stamping world, we used markers or inks to color the different areas of our stamps..so with inks in hand and a Christmas word stamp, I varied the colors of the words. I used muted tones as I wanted a soft effect.

*I sprayed the card with my own perfect pearl mist--In a small mister/sprayer bottle put water and 1 -2 scoops of perfect pearl (color of your choice). Spray paper and then heat with heat tool.

*For the leaves, I used leaves from a vintage wreath. The purpose of the wreath is just that--I use the leaves, flowers and yes, acorns when needed.

* Some prima flowers --ooh I love flowers!! and yes an acorn ( I have to admit that I thought it was a pinecone at first)...

*I inked the ribbon with my perfect pearl mister and then heat set it...Cool!!

As I was working on this tag and looking back to tim's blog, I saw how neat his work area was and how his hands were free from ink and glue, how the pictures just captured what he wanted us to see....Contrast that to my work area....take a look.

Then I thought this is how life is...more like my studio than Tim's snapshot of technique and results. We do need technique, guidance and a place to learn. We need to see results, both positive and negative. But that can't be all of what we see. We need to see that real life can be messy, disorganized and that we all struggle to find the right balance, the right choice, the right piece, the right ink and paper that our life stories are written. It is the daily, the messy and the overwhelming that we must find the one who is our balance, our right choice our right peace, the one who has already written my life story...

"Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith..."

In this crazy, messy, overwhelming season, may our gaze be not on the right tree, the right gift, the right outfit, but on the one who takes our overwhelming mess and replaces it with his perfect peace and makes my faith perfect and complete.

On the second day of Christmas Tags...

my inspiration from Tim's 2nd tag....

I was up before the sun and my little hens...perhaps the anticipation of a new tag or better yet, a new day!! With coffee and iphone in hand, I headed to the studio to begin my 2nd tag. Today, Tim's tag used quite a bit of what I did not have (Are you surprised? So was I) such as kraft resist paper, sticky back canvas, the distress stain (picket fence), perfect pearl mister,the reindeer die,...but I had plenty of inspiration and many other avenues to create.

Here are a few switches that I made...

*Instead of resist paper, I used a music sheet paper from another pad

*For the distress stain, use acrylic paint watered down

*make your own sticky back canvas by using canvas paper (from a pad) and run it through your xyron, attach to grungeboard

*For perfect pearl mister, use a spray bottle with water and a small scoop of perfect pearl powder

I used the inks, ribbons, paints, trinkets that I had on hand..and I think the result is terrific. l love the idea of using what I have...this pushes me to be creative and inventive at the same time....What a jump start to a creative day!

I am reminded in daily life how much it draws parallels to my walk with the Lord. He doesn't ask me to be someone I can not be or to have or use something that I do not possess. He simply asks me to allow him to shape and mold me to who he knows I can be. His request of me is "Wherever you are, use what you have to make this world a better place." He doesn't send me with a shopping list to go and find all the things to make life perfect..He, being perfect gives life to all.

On the 1st day of Christmas....

My take on Tim's 1st tag....

my true love gave to me...the 12 days of Christmas Tags by Tim Holtz!! This year I am determined to follow along with many, many others as Tim refreshes and revitalizes our Christmas Spirit along with reminding us about our long forgottten art supplies and tried and true techniques with a few new ones thrown in. I love how Tim ( I met him only once but he is a friend to all) encourages us to make the tags are own and to use what we have on hand. And for me, I am blessed with a studio full of "on hand" trinkets, treasures, ribbons, inks, paper , die cutting systems (Yes I said "systems") and more. After today's tag, I still needed to get a few things..I realized I hadn't embossed in a while...needed an embossing pad, white embossing powder-I had every color under the sun but white...imagine that?? I will wait on the pine cone die but oooh, how I need that...perhaps want is the better word.

I can't wait to see what his tag is tomorrow. Did you know that he makes the tag the night before so it is ready to go up at midnight? He like the creative pressure....I like the creative calm so I'll gladly wait until I am up with the chickens to begin to create with Tim... I'll post my pictures as I complete the tags...wish me luck to finish each one in the same day...wish y'all were here with me creating and celebrating the season of giving....A bigger wish is that you will find a peace that passes understanding, a joy that is boundless and a love that knows no limits..I hope you will find our Savior under that tree, in a manger, bringing us light, life and love.

Sweet Hymnal Pumpkins

A quick lesson in using vintage papers... Yes the rage is vintage papers, ledgers, music, french/german writings from long ago, postcards, recipes, journals, the list is endless. Perhaps you even have a few pieces laying around your arts/crafts supplies. I love to find old dictionaries, novels ( I love the covers), sheet music ledgers, but my favorite of all has to be old hymnals. A sweet caveat to working with these papers is that I begin to sing the hymns and can hear my grandmother singing when I was a child and of course my parents (who are still very much alive) voices as well. If anyone passes by the studio during these moments, they can hear me singing "Tell me the story" or "Love Divine" . In fact, as I am writing this, the tunes are in my head. Music is powerful. Yet I digress. Some of you may be enamored with vintage papers until you begin to work with them and then you may become frustrated. I have been there a time or two myself. No one seems to want to say that these papers, albeit they are look we crave, are far less that perfect to work with. So I would love to share a few (certainly not all) tips of the trade when working with these papers...First and foremost, know the strength of the paper. For example, hymnal paper is thin..doesn't hold up to distressing, running through a xyron, and easily sticks to your fingers if you have to much adhesive. Sheet music such as Hanon's virtuosos are printed on heavier paper and can be distressed but if they are too old, they will break if folded. Ledger papers depending on the thickness may take to adhering to flat surfaces but will not do well with curved or intricate details. If there is any sheen to the ledger/journal paper, it will not take ink but some will take paint. Paint will create a stiffness, so adhere to your surface first then paint. Postcards can create great backgrounds but are so stiff that they will not work for rounded curves. They do make great transfers on to muslin or canvas. Some of the colors on the postcards can smear if they become inked or wet with adhesive. For some vintage papers, it is best to make a photocopy and use the copy on your work. As with any vintage papers, try to test a small piece of the paper in the manner that you want to use them. It will save you frustration in the end.

These little pumpkins are a great way to use hymnal paper. Each pumpkin took approximately 2 small hymnal pages. I'll take you through the steps with word pictures as of course (you guessed it), I forgot my camera during the process....

First you will need.. 2 small unfinished plain white ceramic pumpkins (Hobby Lobby last year) whatever thing you want to cover...hymnal pages, modpodge, (2) foam brushes, paint (color of your choice for the stems and the bottom), Ribbon, embellishments, tag, hot glue gun, hot glue.

Let's begin...

(1)Tear your hymnal pages into small sections a little smaller than the height of the pumpkin.

(2) Pour modpodge(mp) onto a palette (my favorite..my mom did decoupage in the 70's with modpodge and it still has held up)

(3) Using foam brush, apply adhesive to one piece of paper at a time. Begin to smooth the piece with your finger. *tip..apply a small amount of mp to your finger so the paper will not stick to you.

(4) Continue to work the pumpkin, overlapping the paper. After you have covered about 1/4 of the pumpkin, let is dry. IF you continue to work, you will accidentally remove some of the other paper due to the drying of the adhesive and your sticky hands will pull off the paper that is dry (trust me, it happens).

(5) Work in small sections until the pumpkin is covered, making sure you are smoothing the paper in the curves with the foam brush. Once the pumpkin is covered , go over it with one more coat of mp- this will seal it and make sure all edges are secure.

(6) Once completely dry, begin to embellish with ribbon (securing it with hot glue) and other embellishments of your choice...I used shells and an old metal rose.

(7)Adhere tag with burlap string....

To make the tag, I stamped the scripture onto muslin and then stitched it onto a piece of burlap. Adding an eyelet to the corner, I used a piece of burlap string (the frayed piece) and secured the burlap with hot glue.

I hope this will inspire you to use hymnal pages (as well as vintage papers) for your creative endeavors or to soothe you soul through song...this project did both.

Today's Treasures...

I wanted to share with you a few found treasures...some for inspiration, some for repurposing and some just as they are...

4 little "iron" chairs...have a few ideas for these little seat warmers...

The makings of an Apron from a vintage skirt..A little shiny purse for my "take-along" embroidery, buttons or this'n that,...
A ready made stencil in a frame....Look for some pillows soon.Not 1, but 2 pottery barn silver candle holders... I am in love with these. They were 99 cents each!!!
An beautiful old floral pitcher..either for flowers, paint brushes, markers,....
Lace motifs, lace flower appliques plus 4 pairs of embroidery scissors- for $1.50!!
A copper dish (needs a little clean up) but it certainly looks like this could hold some jute balls, shells or cute little gourds....

A weathered galvanized wine cooler...This deserves a great place...ooh but where???

And then for one of the greatest treasure that I came across today....

John 10:3b-4 He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all of his own, he goes ahead of them and his sheep follow him because they know his voice....(vs. 9) I (Jesus) am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. they will come in and go out, and find pasture.

I am so grateful to be a name not a number, not a nameless face in the crowd. Yesterday I ran across a sister of a College friend. She knew me many years ago, I ate dinner with them in College and visited quite frequently their parents home..This woman did not remember me...Heart breaking. Yet the One who is the Savior of the world is my Savior. He knows my name!!! As a horse/chickens owner, I understand that a leader is crucial. The leader gives security, peace and safety, nourishment andthe needs of life. He (she) is responsible for his flock, herd. Jesus promises that he'll lead me by still waters, he will keep me secure in the midst of strife, he will provide for all of my needs, In fact I shall not want.

Treasures come in all shapes, sizes, price tags and purpose. The trinkets make their way in to my home, my art, my gifts. LOVE ALWAYS.....

Can you believe two posts in just a few days? I am not sure what is going on. Perhaps it's the cooler weather we had this past week (don't be too excited- 100 degrees are on the horizon), the New Martha Stewart Paints, being inspired by others or that I have remembered my camera. You would be surprised to know how many "before and after's" you have missed because I realized I didn't take any pictures. So here's to remembering the camera this week for 2 of the many projects going on in my little part of Texas...

I have come across a company that makes whimsical paper pads, home decor and accessories..the problem is that they are strictly wholesale and by the time they get to the store they are expensive. Sometimes, I look at things and think "How did they do that?" and appreciate their artisan talent. At other times, I think - "Oh, I can do that." and appreciate that I can add my own creative touch,also. This is one of those times. So with this art print from this company as the inspiration I began to create my

Love Always..

Here's what you'll need: Acrylic paints in white, black, red and blue (Pool by Martha Stewart is an awesome blue!), ruler, pencil, adhesive tape, brushes, wooden placque (size is up to you), letter stamps or stencils...

See the price...so very doable!!

Paint the plaque with white. Depending on the wood, a second coat may be necessary. Let dry. ***LOVE the attachments to Martha's paint bottles***

Then begin to tape, measuring for the blue lines (to resemble notebook paper) Be sure to mark and tape the horizontal line for the red line in the "Paper". Then using your blue-paint the lines.

Remove the tape - you may let the paint dry first but if you're like me, I can't wait to peek, so peal the tape ever so carefully. (You can fix the "boo-boos" later)

Once everything is dry, paint the red line of the "Paper". Since the blue and white paint are dry, you may run two lines of adhesive tape, so your red line doesn't bleed into the other areas....

Oops..I accidentally had a little red smear on the corner...I actually liked it so I left it...Happy Accidents sometimes are the perfect touches to our projects. I did sand the edges of the lines as to remove the pencil markings and to give it a bit of a rustic feel....
Next, using letter stamps- Stamp your sentiment with black acrylic paints. I used some of the foam letter stamps from way back. You could also use stencils. If you use stencils, just make sure your paint is dry before you move on to the next letter.

Tin-spiration

I love tin cans, big, small, galvanized, new, vintage (just another word for weathered and worn.) There was a time when I carried a metal lunch box to school, had metal watering cans, used metal buckets to wash our car on Saturday. Then metal fell out of fashion and plastic became the rage..and for a time you could only find metal pails, buckets and trash cans at hardware stores or feed stores. But as with everything, there back in fashion, (I promise shoulder pads will come back - but that is another story). Everyone raves about their vintage galvanized tins... the dollar stores, craft stores carry nesting, painted, plain,..you name it. So, I thought I would share a little idea for our little tin cans, using the new Martha Stewart paints and accessories.... This was fun and fast and will make great gifts- you can fill these little gems with anything....here we go....

First you'll need: Tin can(s) new or old, 2 colors of paint ( I used linen and beetle black- love it!!), burlap, stencil of your choice, stencil brush (2), adhesive tape (Martha's rocks!), metal brads, adhesive of your choice ( I use ultimate), wood craft sticks, floral moss (optional) and dont' forget some type of covering for your work surface and of course paper plates...

Let's begin, cut your burlap into squares according to the size of your tin cans...

Now using your first color, sponge on the burlap creating an area of color..

TIP: Stack the burlap squares 2 at a time, as you paint some of the paint will seep through and begin to cover your 2nd burlap square.

Next, choose your stencil and place a scrap piece of burlap underneath. Using the adhesive tape secure your stencil....

Once you have practiced your stencil and feel comfortable with it, stencil the rest of your squares of burlap . Make sure the first color is dry!! With burlap, it dries quickly!

Here are my stenciled squares....No need to worry about the fraying, the paint secures the edges...

Next, add brads to the corners...

Then using your adhesive, cover the back and adhere to your tin pail....

If you would like to add floral moss, now it the time. Using Ultimate ( my go to adhesive), add the moss to the edges or the front. As you can see in the first picture I added the moss in different areas. I am thinking of now adding a sweet sentiment but am waiting for just the perfect thought...

Set your pail aside to dry and admire your work...It looks good!!

Here is another idea to incorporate the holiday season that is coming up....Orange burlap is available at your fabric store---So add it to these little pails and you have an instant fall decoration. Fill it with sweet treats or a holiday scented candle such as pumpkin pie or spiced apple or fill it with little gourds or pumpkins..

A Saturday Gathering...

Blessed...Today was a wonderful day. I held a "Creative Collage Cuff" workshop (I really don't know why it is called "workshop" - No work involved, no shopping...It should be called "playtime"). And Play is what we did.. 7 Fabulous women joined my mom, my girls and me for a great day filled with Laughter, Friendship and Creative inspiration.
Bliss...Supreme Happiness (webster's definition, not mine) but it sure does describe today's events. We gathered at my home and art studio for a time of creativity that involved stamping, stitching, sewing, collaging (this is a word in my home- How about your's?), and even gluing!! As I taught, I also learned- that's the beauty in being a life long learner. It is wonderful to know that we haven't arrived yet - in art, in creativity, in life and ultimately in our Lord. There is so much to learn and I love to increase not just in head knowledge but heart knowledge...I digress. Back to the day, we took a short break to look at the girlies - My little hens. It is wonderful when people want to share in your joys. Then back to stitching, creating until lunch. Lunch was a great time filled with food and friends. We even were privileged to celebrate one of the sweetest gal's birthday. Susie, thanks for sharing it with us and Sharry, thanks for thinking of her and for the wonderful cake. We went back to creating - Some had changed from the idea of a cuff to dog collars, hangings and needle holders. That 's when you know you have helped others take off with your initial idea and make it there own....

Now you might be wondering "Where are the Pictures of this great time?" Very good question with a great answer...I forgot to take any pictures but a New wonderful friend did - So mosey on over to her blog and take a peek....It's well worth the trip.

Meet the girlies.....

We have been quite busy since early April 19th. A few weeks earlier, my husband, Sweet and Wonderful, gave his blessing to one of my dreams-- I could have chickens!! I have wanted those little feathery friends for at least 20 years!!! So with his blessing, the girls and I began to explore and study all there was to know about our soon to be members of our backyard farm! (I had actually purchased, years ago, several books on raising and keeping chickens.) But we purchased more books and magazines (Did you know there is one devoted to Chickens?!!!) and of course, the internet provided info, suppliers and of course our chickens. We especially love my pet chicken . We chose bantams since they are smaller and quieter but believe me they can fly! I think the movie Chicken Run had it all wrong - we have good little fliers but their wings have been clipped (for their safety and my sanity!) They arrived on April 19th--oh what a fun day! We had our brooder set up in my studio and took care to keep them warm, fed, and healthy.

We held them, sang to them - We kept the radio playing Country all day, ate lunch with them (except when we were eating chicken- a bit weird:) and of course made sure their nights were warm and comfortable.

They are now 14 weeks old and have been out in their chicken yard since June. We moved them to a new chicken yard this week... Sweet and Wonderful created a larger area for our girlies...We did have one beautiful rooster that went to a new farm on Saturday..I think my neighbors are thanking me but to me, his greeting the morning and welcoming the day was a wonderful sound....So we now have 7 little girlies...Here are all but one....They do not always cooperate when the camera is out...

.....To bring you daily living. We are having a great time with Beau, our new paint horse, daily trips to the barn, trying our hand at homeschooling with the girls and loving it! We added 8 sweet chicks to the house..Yes real chicks!! I have always wanted to raise chickens and with Scott's blessing, we welcomed them to our home this past Tuesday. Morgan is loving the College Life (He's a junior at Abilene Christian University, if you are keeping track). Summer will be here soon, swimming, sunning, riding, raising (hens), creating, lazy days are on the horizon!! I hope that daily living is a joy for you. Oh by the way, here are a few projects that I am working on...A chick dairy, creative endeavors are a plenty, a few paint projects in the garage, the coolest metal fabrication class (that I am taking!!), inspiration samplers, the list is endless but time is a tickin'..So I'll be back to the blog soon, but for now I'm off to check the "Chicklets" and settle down with my sweet kiddos (Yes Morgan is home for Easter!!). More learning each day....

My journey of self discovery... ( that is fancy for clearing/cleaning) out has just begun. I took the liberty yesterday morning for more "self-discovery." With the freezing rain hitting my windows and my eyes wide opened, I ventured into my closet. I decided I would start with all of our towels and sheets and then I moved onto my clothes...With the system in place, I began. If I hadn't used it or had too many, I put it in the goodwill pile. If it was all used up or in bad shape, I tossed it. If I knew I would use it, then it found a place to call home on the shelves or the drawers ( My husband redid our closet with the Container Store--he is so good). Here are a few things I learned about the linens...

1. No one needs 9 sets of sheets for the same bed - even if they were on sale. I don't know about your bed, but my bed can only have 1 set at a time.

2. We had way too many blankets...Except today it is 15 degrees, I might should go back and pull them out....No, resist the urge, I kept plenty (at least one per family member!).

3. Some of my pillowcases and sheets could be considered vintage--Oh My how time flies!!

3. For towels, they look much better if you can fold them and even better if you can find them.

It was only around 5:00 (am that is) - so I moved onto my clothes. It's funny that we say we have nothing to wear...Last time I checked I did and probably so do you. It's more like...I haven't got the right thing to wear but more on the learning a bit later. My system here was a little different. I decided that the clothes that didn't fit were definitely going but then there were two other categories that I needed to consider. The first one was clothes that held memories - such as a leather vest that Scott gave me and then the second was that some of my clothes weren't "Me." Oh they belonged to me but didn't feel like me. Perhaps I bought them at a great price or at a time when I thought I needed them. It was also clothes that didn't make me feel great when I put them on. Let me explain this concept further....I love to take my girls shopping. When Savannah (my teenager) tries on clothes, I know immediately if she likes them. Her face lights up, she fixes her hair and she envisions what shoes she'll wear. When Presleigh( my 9 year old) gets clothes, she knows her style - and she loves to mix and match clothes. Yes, I love that my girls love clothes. So when I began the clearing out, I wanted that same feeling...that when I put that top, sweater or jeans on, I smile and begin to fix my hair, smile and think of shoes....So the sorting began...

Here's what I learned..

1. I had way too many clothes that weren't me... This was like an episode of "What Not to Wear" except No Stacy and Clinton and no embarrassing video.

2. Memories are not in the clothes..They are in my heart.

3. The clothes that are little too tight or too big...tossed. I don't plan on getting bigger and when I need smaller, it will be fun to go buy them.

4. Even after all that...I still have clothes!!

Now for real self- discovery....

*Just like the urge to get the blankets, we tend to want to go back and pick up that thing that we just gave to God so he could handle it (just as he wants). Or even still, we want to go back and get the bitterness, selfishness, pride or ______(you fill in the blank) that we felt towards someone or a situation, We think we might need that old feeling again.. The Lord tells us to get rid of those things so he can make a better way. You know the beauty of God's wisdom is it is his. He has what we need to make it through the bitter cold , the storms and the joys of life. We don't need to go back into that old box, no matter how tempting.

*My clothes, no matter if they are the latest fashions or something from the past, they do not define who I am. It's fun to look cute, to try new fashions, and it's ok to stick with what is comfortable. But it really isn't important. Paul says this is our wardrobe...

"Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Col 3:12

Those need to be forefront in our fashion, in our lives...then no matter what You or I wear, these will be the best additions to our wardrobe.

* I also realized that I am so blessed. The Lord said he would provide for all my needs. After filling 4 trash sized bags, my closet wasn't bare, my clothes were enough for me. I've made room, I've cleared out the old, the "not me's", the extras and I can share with others who are in need.

The things I have learned....

Let me speak from the heart.... I have too much stuff!! I tried to think of ways to say this, an endearing little line about she who dies with the most....wins. But in reality she who has the most is a slave to it and is always finding places to put it! I have so many passions..in art, in creative endeavors, in needlework, in home keeping, in cooking and baking, in gardening, in books, in music, in decorating, my family, my faith, my Lord... the list is endless...but so is what I have accumulated over the past 25 years. Now in saying that, there are treasures I will not part with and there are things needed to pursue those said passions. It is good to have a library of great books, it is good to have those treasures that create special memories in the home or further my artistic inspirations. So please do not read that I am going to the minimalist side....I am a memory-ist (my own word). I love to be surrounded by treasures of times gone by, those gifts from my Mom, my husband, my children, making my home a reflection of those that I love and what brings me joy. I love the sound of buttons as you rustle your hands through them, lace as it shows such a feminine side. I love to read Cookbooks as thought they were novels. So my home is still a reflection of me. But today, I took the inspiration from a wonderful blog by Heather Bullard. She took time to redo her bookcases and found out things about her and what her focus would be. I am going to begin tackling room by room...So here is what I did today...

In my sewing room is a walk-in closet and an attic closet. Neither one of these could I walk in, so moving boxes were purchased and taped together, and the clean out began. If I couldn't remember the last time I used it, it went in the goodwill box. If it was broken or no longer able to be used, it was tossed. If I loved it and knew what I would use it for, I saved it..

What I discovered about me...

1. I absolutely love baskets..but I became a basket case when trying to keep them all.

2. I had around 25 lamp shades -varying sizes...I guess we were all wearing lampshades to the party...turn out the lights the party is over!

3. I love to organize..but I had so many different styles of organization that nothing was organized.

4. To recycle, repurpose is great..except when you have over 30 pairs of jeans...So, I am going to let others have a pair of wranglers, rustlers, huskys and bootcut. It is good to share.

5. It didn't hurt to let those 5 boxes plus a few bags go like I thought it would. It actually is freeing... and it is wonderful not to trip over all those things just to get a piece of ribbon or fabric.

Here are a few pictures of the closets (sorry some are dark..there are only tap lights in the attic closet)...

You can see that there is still plenty to create and sew. But you can also see the floor!!! It is a great feeling to clear out - not just the physical but the emotional and spiritual as well. We can feel free when we clear out those overflowing closets, but the Lord also tells us that our freedom is in Christ when we clear out the old and let him bring in the new. I know that for my sewing room..only that which is precious or a treasure will be brought back in. And I know that the Lord will only bring in the absolute best he has to offer...Won't you clear out with me....you closets, your cabinets, your heart? Until next time,

A new year....new Joy

After Christmas has been put away, I long for a soft palette of creams, calming wintery whites and a touch of vintage silver. I am not a neutral gal as our home has many colors throughout. We often tease that we have the Red Room, the Blue Room and then the Ocean Room, just too mention a few. I am a lover of many colors as some create energy, drama, or a sense of relaxation. But after the reds, greens, lights, ornaments, Snowmen and Santas- it is good to just have simple, soft and soothing.

I hope you have already found joy in the New Year and that your daily living is enriched by those that you love and love you in return. I hope your New Year's Resolutions include finding joy in the everyday. Sometimes that is harder than the typical resolutions such as weight loss, fitness, spending less money (of course, those are on my list too). Joy can come in so many ways. We tend to think of joy as a life without challenges, sorrows or just inconveniences. Let me turn that around....Presleigh received a Thesaurus for Christmas (She was bored with using the same words), So I thought I would look up Joy - so here are some words we can use to see that there is indeed joy in our lives -- Delight, triumph, great pleasure, jubilation, joyfulness, bliss, exuberant, happiness, gladness, rejoicing, treat....this brings to mind someone I know who has beaten Cancer..She triumphed - She has Joy! my son, had an accident at the Gym on Tuesday and has a compressed vertebrae fracture - I am rejoicing that he does not need surgery, nor a brace - He will heal in time and have no permanent damage, just some inconveniences... We have joy! In these two circumstances, many times we don't see Joy...But if we look harder, Joy lies beneath what is seen. I pray that your journey into 2011 will be filled with wonderful times, wonderful people, realized dreams, exciting endeavors but above all,remember, There is joy in our journey...

A story to be told

It’s raining. It’s pouring and no I am not snoring. I am actually home – which is rare. Perhaps my errands can wait for a while, my running here and there and seeming always to end up at Walmart. But today is different, perhaps it’s the grayness or the sound of rain that has kept me in or perhaps it’s the need to be where I can look through each room, each pile, each paper, and recall that I am blessed. I have a place to which my children love to be, where my husband comes home to each week after being gone, where I feel safe and loved.

I stopped in the middle of my “cleaning” and thought I would write a bit…it’s been awhile. What really prompted me was Presleigh’s room. Some might see her room as a bit full...full of stuffed animals that have been lovingly chosen, full of trinkets from places we’ve been such as London, Florida, California and of course those wonderful garage sales and treasure stores. They may see an abundance of papers, pictures, notebooks, that they may think to throw away. Believe it or not, I do think that at times but today as I was picking up little bits of paper and such, I read one of the stories that Presleigh had written. A treasure to be kept not a scrap to be tossed.You see, she is a creative soul, always looking, thinking, dreaming, writing, asking, searching, and believing. Believing in her abilities, in her imagination, in the possibilities, the limitless nature of God. Of course, she is only nine. My older children at times, want to shush her or at the very least, just roll their eyes and look at me. My response has and always will be – “You once were like that.” But then I think to myself, “ I once was like that.”

What changes? What happens to us as we leave those wonder years where everything is a wonder, a dream, a possibility. What is it about a child that captures the essence of who we should be?

As I ponder these thoughts and so many others, I can’t help but think that like Presleigh, we have a story that is waiting to be told…A story that encompasses so much more than we realize. Our story is of one who was lost and has been found, a story of limitless possibilities to those that believe in the Mighty One of Jacob, the Lord. “For with God, nothing is impossible." (Luke).A story of pure redemption, where nothing in our past is held against us, for those that have received forgiveness. Our future is bright – for the one who lights our path, lights the day with the sun and the moon and stars by night. Our story can be new each day just as his mercies are new.

Presleigh writes several stories a day. They are inspired by what is happening at school, what she is reading, what she is experiencing, even where she is in her walk with the Lord. Her stories give me a glimpse into her very being. Her writings are so precious to me…she is precious to me. It is almost time to get back to her room but I do have just one question for you, for me........What is your story? Remember, you are precious in his sight....Go ahead dear one and begin writing your story as you live in the daily. Your story is worth reading.

I am creating, crafting, decorating, cleaning (always because when you create, craft or decorate..cleaning must follow, right?), loving and taking care of my family. It is time for me to take a little break from the world of blogging (not that I am very faithful at it) but nonetheless, it is always on my to do list and I become anxious over not having posted or forgot to take pictures of certain things....so for now I am going to sign off for awhile - I need a little time of reflection, direction and a dream---But I did want to show you pictures of our wonderful day at my home for Tidbits and Tassels 2. The weather was beautiful, the ladies were wonderful and the weekend was memorable...So here are some pictures of this wonderful time of gathering, creating, laughing and well just having fun!! Quick trip to Abilene...

Whirlwind week...Tidbits and Tassels 2 was awesome! I had planned to post earlier this week after I had caught up the daily as I had been creating with some wonderful women during the weekend....but instead of catching up on the daily, I needed to head out west (no problem for me.. I love the wide open spaces, the big Sky, the great people) to ACU to move Morgan from one apartment to another one (back on Campus, YEAH!!) So I returned last night after being gone for several days...So now I need to catch up on the daily.... I promise I will post about our awesome weekend!!! And there will be pictures, Savannah took over 200 (My friend, Jodie, advise --if you take a bunch, you're bound to have a few good ones).

While in Abilene, I met with one of the most awesome women, Roxanne. She is one of the gals putting together a most wonderful weekend in Abilene - High Cotton Art Camp Please go check it out. Registration is ending September 15th!! Hurry and join us as we celebrate all things creative!!

Finishing final touches, gathering goodies, preparing treats, cleaning (better finish this post so I can be ready!!)....I can hardly wait for our Art Retreat this weekend!! It is coming up in just 4 short days. There are such wonderful, talented and most definitely, fun ladies who are coming from as far as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Louisiana and as close as Dallas and all points in between! I want to share the exciting news about High Cotton Art Camp (for grown up girls). I will be one of 8 teachers teaching during this fabulous weekend. I am also honored to share this time with 7 incredibly talented women. Our weekend takes place in the fabulous west Texas town of Abilene. It is an awesome place. Just 3 hours west of Dallas, you will see wide open spaces and a sky that goes on forever. There are 3 awesome godly women who are putting this whole art retreat experience together. They give all the glory to God for their creativity and then want to encourage women to pursue their creative talents. There will be workshops, shopping, dining, and just a whole lot of goodness. My first blog banner..

A new blog banner! Thanks to Jeff Arnold for a wonderful photo shoot here at home and in the studio..I was able to actually have a few pictures with my eyes open and mouth shut (well, just not talking but still showing a smile). And a thank you to Savannah, (my 16 year old) who walked (actually stood beside me) through photoshop to make a banner....So Fun!!

Recently, I was in need of some pictures of me to send to the places that I will be teaching. So I began to scour iphotos...My family loves candid pictures but those are not always the most flattering(maybe the most funny...). Little does the family know that many pictures (with me) have been deleted or cropped...I believe I have "rapid blinking syndrome"...In fact the best pictures are the ones with my sunglasses....But that was not requested. So my son suggested Jeff Arnold (He was our children's media pastor up until recently) to come and do a photoshoot...He was willing and the timing was perfect! It was a great reason to get a few outfits and have alot of fun! I will be updating profile pics everywhere..did you know that my FB picture is only 5 years old!!!

Jeff and his wife, Sara, were so fun and truly captured what I had always hoped to look like...He also loved my studio and didn't comment on the amount of stuff but thought everything was cool, especially the ribbon wall!! Here are a few pictures from that fun night...Hope you enjoy!

We returned from our vacation, our skin was kissed by the sun and our spirits renewed by the wonderful time we had. Before I talk about the trip to sunny Florida where there were shells to be picked (Presleigh picked 60 pounds worth), sea turtles to be fed, sharks to be caught and abeach to be walked on, I must tell you of Paper Cowgirl Art Retreat, the wonderful women who took my class and new friends that My girls, my mom and I made...Here are some pictures that show case the class, the good time we had..

Thank you for being so sweet to my Presleigh, Jodie who I love to see even if only for a moment (can't wait until August), LaVerne, Deb and AnnDenise - new found friends who seem like I have known them all my life, Cindy and Sandra - I am so glad we saw each other again, and to all the ladies (Patty, Jan, Cindy, Renee, Cathy, Terri, Jacie, Andrea, Elizabeth, Judy, Debbe, Linda,Karin, Keely, LaVerne, Cindy and Vicki- hope I got everybody) who were in my class -THANKYOU!!

Fun in the sun...and a few other things

We are heading to Sunny Florida for a great vacation. No oil where we are going (thankfully) --Ponte Vedra is on the Atlantic just 40 minutes south of Jacksonville. It is a family tradition that started when I was just a little girl. My grandparents lived in Jacksonville Beach and every summer we would travel there- where the ocean breeze blows and the sun shines. Now for the past 10 years or so we have gone and felt the same breeze, basked in the sun, have gone deep sea fishing, shell hunting, sandcastle building, shopping, swimming, resting and renewing. My parents join us and it is a treasured time that we spend.

So I wanted to let everyone know that when I return, I will Cowgirl Up and share pics and memories of a great Art Retreat Weekend!! I met some of the most talented and fun women that kept me laughing, learning and creating!! Thank you to all who took my class - you were truly a blessing! Can't wait to see everyone next time!!

Where I create.....

I am honored to be part of this blog party....About a year ago we began renovations to our backyard. We dug up the grass, my herb garden of 9 years, peach trees, climbing roses...yes I cried. But the vision my husband and I shared was to enrich our lives, the lives of our children, and to use what we have as a blessing for others...So here is the finished backyard with pool, outdoor living/kitchen areas and of course, my husband wanted to build an Art Studio for me....I am forever grateful to him for all he has done for me. I love being in there, I love that my girls and my mom love being in there, I love when friends gather and they love being in there...So enjoy the pictures, some are courtesy of my friend Jodie, some are from last year and some are from today....Don't blog "party" too long - for your creative space is calling....

This is really what my creative space looks like when I am creating...I only tidy up for necessity. So I can find that which is hidden...
No matter the size of your space, create! For some it is the dining room table, part of the bedroom or even in a closet ( I have been in all of those places). I have been blessed to be able to have a supportive husband and family in my creative endeavors. I hope that you have found kindred spirits on this blog party. We all love the creative process more than our space. We love to share in the experience more than the finished product. In our creative pursuit, it isn't always about finishing, it is about discovery. I will always be thankful to God for the gifts he has bestowed to me in my life. I pray that I use them for his glory and not mine. I will always be thankful to my family who encourage me in all that I do. I will always be thankful for you - for our paths crossing. It has been said that children become chatterboxes at night…I prefer to call it the dreamer’s lullaby. I was reminded again of the age of innocence and imagination. All too often when I lay my head on the pillow, my body and mind are so tired from the day’s daily living that I close my eyes without a an imaginative thought. Rather it is the “to do” list that is running through my mind. Last night, I was lying down with my youngest daughter, as is our goodnight ritual. We say prayers, and then usually she says “I love you, goodnight” which is her signal “No talking.”

Earlier that evening, Presleigh had begun to write a story as she often does. It is almost a daily occurrence. She has written stories about girls who become spies, girls who become animal trainers, and girls who settle a town and of course, girls are the heroes of the stories. As our bedtime conversation turned to her stories, she asked me which one was my favorite. It was so hard to pick just one, so I named a few. She asked if it was good to write stories and have imagination. I emphatically said “Absolutely.” Then she asked if I still have imagination but before I could answer she answered her own question. Her answer was a resounding “Yes.”

Where did she see my imagination? Where did I see my imagination? I get caught up in the “to do’s “of the day, of the running here and there, doing this and that.

She then explained “ In your art. Mommy you have to imagination to do what you do. “ I smiled and thought – We can still be children at heart with imagination and creativity. In our homes, in our careers, in our relationships, imagination helps us see beyond today. Creativity helps what we imagine come to be.

Some of us have imagination and never do anything with it. Yes, as children we became superheroes, kings, and queens, we could sore the heights, which gave us the ability to think beyond our limitations. As adults, our imagination can be used to create avenues to help others, to better the world in which we live, to move beyond our limitations. I love that our God, the Creator, has the most awesome imaginative mind but that his creative spirit did not remain only in thought. By his words, he created the heavens and the earth. He created our very being and the beauty that surrounds us. Our God is truly awesome!! For who could imagine that we, though sinners, are saved by grace, redeemed by love and called to be his children.

The next time you lay down on that pillow, instead of the “to do’s”’ running through your head, why not talk to your heavenly Father about his favorite story- The cross, the greatest love story ever told. And then imagine how you could share that story with your children…It will become the all time favorite!!

Le petit sac - Workshop at Tidbits and Tassels 2

Tidbits and Tassels 2 presents....

"Le petit sac" taught by Maryse Henry.

After our Friday evening of stitching and swapping, Saturday we will begin with morning delights (coffee, pastries,...) and our first workshop for the day. My incredibly talented mom, Maryse Henry, will be teaching us how to transform a blank mini tote into a work of art. Using bits of this and that and special techniques and fabric, we will learn the art of collage. All you need is your creativity and a basic class kit..the rest is provided.

Here is a little bio on Maryse ( I call her Mom)...She was born and raised near Paris, France. Although she has lived in the states for more than 40 years (12 of those in this great state, Texas), her approach to all things creative is definitely grounded in her French background. Her art work spans many different genres..from Wall Murals to miniatures to her art work gracing the White House during the Reagan administration. She loves all creative arts from needlework, sewing, knitting, crocheting, paper arts, jewelry making, to even some from way back...candle making, tole painting, doll making...get the idea:) As a child, I remember her always making something beautiful and then she with her generous heart, gave so many of her creations to family and friends. She is a delight and a wonderful wife, awesome mother, incredible grandmother and a friend to all.

I made this in about ten minutes...Here are the supplies you need (by the way, I thought about posting this after I made it...so the supplies are a list, not a cool little picture, maybe next time)...

Gather ---1 supply tag (remove the string)

Colorbox ink pad - color of choice ( I used chestnut roan)

Stazon Ink color of your choice (I used in Timber Brown)

Stamp with sentiment...

Seam binding ( two colors)

3 silk flowers

1 doodad for the center....

Sewing Machine with thread to match color scheme - I chose brown

Begin by...Stamp Sentiment with Stazon

Ink edges with colorbox

Machine stitch with a zig zag stitch on outer edges of tag

Glue flowers in corner with Ultimate glue

Cut long pieces of seam binding...

***I love this technique for the ribbon...thread ribbon through the hole of tag

Make a single knot and one bow...now continue to make bows until you have a little ribbon left for the tails....It looks full and "flowery".

Embroidery Sampler nearly complete....

WOW..two posts in a matter of days. I just wanted to share with everyone my inspiration embroidery sampler. It just needs a few bits of lace and buttons around the edges to secure it to the linen piece. But I was so excited about how it came together--I hope you enjoy!!

Out of the mouth of babes-- Presleigh, our 9 year old, told Savannah, our 16 year old, that she thought the book she (Savannah) was reading was ..."Tequilla mockingbird".

Conclusion:Either our accents are so strong or....well, we won't go there!! I believe it is the accent. So when you hear that Texas twang, you just gotta smile!!!

Family, Friends and Art....

What a lovely day! We had such a great time today at our Artful Cross Class. With good friends and family (and of course, good food), we ventured into the studio for inspiration and instruction with wonderful conversation and laughter. This first photo shows a few of the crosses that were completed today...The following photo ( my sweet mom's--she is so talented!) is a cross with layering of another small wooden cross and altering embellishments to fit together. All are distinctive of their creator.

That thought gives me great joy as the Creator, God, made us all unique with a purpose only we have been designed to fulfill. As this Easter week is upon us, reflect on the life he has given us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. With Spring in the air, flowers blooming, trees coming out of winter's sleep, we see new life all around us. God chose this time of the year to display the most magnificent new life..... a new life born out of resurrection. Praise be to our God who is ever-faithful, ever- forgiving and ever-living!!

It's Rhyme Time....

Presleigh, my youngest, came to me just before Valentine's day asking for my help on a writing project. She explained that they had to write a poem that had to rhyme and that it also had to follow a certain pattern. I told her that I was more than happy to help and that I love to write. So this was right up my alley. When I asked her the topic of this poem, she was a little timid. After some coaxing, she said "It is supposed to be a surprise. This is a poem about you, mommy." I smiled. Then, we started working on this little ditty--She had already begun the first stanza and then in my mind and through my pen, thoughts and words (rhyming of course) began to flow. She wrote the last stanza and I had filled in the middle. When she asked "How did you do that?" I told her "I was thinking about you as I wrote the words." Take a peek at our poem. Couldn't this be about your sweet little ones, too (even if they are grown)? It was a memory making afternoon...My Presleigh and Me.

I am in a creative planning mode. I should be getting ready for a Birthday Party, filling goody bags, wrapping presents and preparing for a trip to London (for all 4 of us) that are occurring in the same week. This is more fun!! April 17^th – Strings and things….Learn the beginnings of jewelry making with techniques such as stringing, crimping, and dangling to make a wonderful bracelet. 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm Cost is $35 *Afternoon refreshments will be served. (pictures shortly)

May 1 – Celebrate May Day with a Handmade Ribbon Tassel and a embellished glass flower holder to adorn your door! Springtime refreshments will be served. Cost is $50 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.

Hello Spring

Hello Spring...at least for today here in Texas. It started out at 34 and we have quickly gone to 61 and sunny. So with all the Valentine's decorations put away (only took 30 minutes--way shorter than Christmas), Spring has sprung in a few places in our home and yard. I planted over 200 bulbs at the end of January. A few are popping up in spite of last week's 9+ inches of snow. The snow came gently falling for two days and was gone within 2 days as well. It came long enough for a few snow angels, snow balls and cups of hot cocoa.

Snow is very different than that of the North where snow falls, stays, gets dirty and falls again! Our snowy winter lasted all of 3 days or so. Now that is not to say that it is gone for good. It has snowed and iced in March a time or two. The old saying is true "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait a minute and it will change." Ahh the beauty of this great state!

Hidden treasures

"What's in the bag?" was my thought as it sat on the top shelf in my sewing room closet (not to be confused with my studio--2 separate places). I vaguely remembered that it had some kind of fabric from some garage sale from some time back. So with curiousity, I pulled it down and to my surprise--hidden treasures!! It was filled with all kinds of vintage fabrics, unfinished quilt motifs/squares...all of what is the rage right now in the sewing and creative arts world. Recently, I have been trying to find vintage fabrics to do various art projects. I've looked at blogs, websites, magazines and all filled with vintage fabric/paper projects. Thinking all the while "I wish I had some of those precious fabrics." Little did I know that my treasures were under my nose or shall I say --in the bag!

It reminds me of the hidden treasures in God's word. At times in my life, I have searched for joy, happiness, fulfillment, relationships, worth (the list could go on and on- what have you been searching for?) and want what others have. Yet, when I look outside at others, I can't seem to find that treasure that I so desperately need or want. And then just as my vintage fabric bag was filled with what I needed, so is God's precious words to me..."And my God will meet all my needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus" (Php. 4:19). Words that are so needed today as I face new challenges. The two treasures share a common thread - Forgetfulness on my part. Just I had forgotten about my fabric treasure, I forget that God is good all the time and he does supply my needs according to his goodness and faithfulness. However, there is one huge difference between the two treasures... My scraps are garage sale- supplied by someone who no longer needed them. Treasures to me but castaways none the less. My needs in life are not met by someone who no longer needed what I desired but they are met by the one who loves me for who I am (failures and all) and who I am becoming. He lavishly gives out of riches. Just as the Bible is filled to overflowing with treasures so to was the bag--- Want to peek inside?

The cross and the manger

This cross is to be given to Presleigh's teacher tomorrow for Christmas. When I showed it to Presleigh for approval, she said it wasn't very "christmassy." I began to second guess my gift. Should I save this for Easter? Should I have made something entirely different or perhaps bought something? We did contribute to a gift card for the class gift..but always need to have a personal touch to our gift-giving. Back to my dilemma...then the Lord put something on my heart that I would like to share with you jut a few days before we celebrate our Savior's birth.

"For God so loved the world...that he gave his one and only Son." Jesus came in the lowliest form..a baby born to a poor, lonely family...no room for them, no room for him. The manger filled with hay was the place that Jesus would first encounter humanity. If you have ever sat on a hay bale, gone for a hay ride or even fed horses hay, you know that ..It is prickly... It can poke, rub, give rashes to those with sensitive skin(imagine the skin of a baby)...It can cause you to sneeze, can get caught in your hair... It is felt through clothes and just to put it simply--It is annoying and uncomfortable. It is not down feathers,nor sheep skin. And most definitely not the way deity, nor royalty should be received.

God loved us so deeply, the world so deeply that the gift was not just the cross. Have you thought that without the gift of the manger, there would not be the gift of the cross. The two represent God's complete love for us. It was not just in the death and resurrection that he loved us..It is in the birth of Jesus Christ that he began his redemptive plan and it is in the cross that his love and forgiveness was made complete.

To use Presleigh's word...this cross is very "Christmassy." Blessings to all and may the peace of Jesus Christ dwell in you this holiday season....

A spot of Christmas Tea with Laura Bush

Yesterday was divine... I invited my mother, my sister and 2 friends and their girls along with my girls to a Christmas Tea at the Dallas Arboretum. A beautiful oasis in Dallas with breathtaking gardens, special events throughout the year and at Christmas they display over 500 nativities. The Christmas tea was hosted by the Women's Council of the Dallas Arboretum. We were so honored to have the former first lady, Laura Bush, to be our story teller. It was amazing. She was amazing.

We had the opportunity to meet her at a private reception before the tea actually began. She was as lovely in person as she is on television. At the tea, She read her book, Read All about It, that she co-wrote with Jenna, her daughter. It was a delight to have her read to the children. Presleigh was near her and even answered a question about President Bush.

But the day was even more perfect because of those that shared it with me. It is a day that my girls will never forget. They met someone who has been true to her husband, her family, her faith and her country. Someone with grace and integrity. My mom and my sister, the two most important women in my life, were there with us. It was a day for the girls in our family...priceless. Also, we share the day with friends. Life is best shared and special days are truly meant to be shared. I am blessed to have been able to share this day with Ann Michelle and her daughter, Megan and Lynne with her two girls, Lauren and Macy.

Some days we will recall the special events. Other days blend into the next... but in truth each day is a gift from our heavenly father. I pray that each day I see the beauty, the splendor and the blessings . Whether it is meeting a former first lady or meeting my children in the kitchen for breakfast....All are days that I will treasure. I hope you and I greet this day with joy and expectation for today is all we have!!

Thank you for joining me on this Cookie Swap Day! Don't you love these cookie platters? Me, too. This one was a wonderful free image that I downloaded due to the fact that I am photography challenged...but enough about me. Pour a glass of milk or a cup of tea and have a few cookies on me.

My first recipe is one of my all time favorites that my mom made for us when I was younger. I can't make it anymore due to the fact that my youngest is highly allergic to nuts. So please enjoy these in your home and think of me when these little blossoms grace your table. There are shortcut versions to this recipe but from scratch is best!!!

Peanut Butter Blossoms

1 ¾ cups flour

1 tsp. soda

½ tsp. salt

½ c. margarine

½ c. peanut butter

½ c. sugar

½ c. brown sugar

1 unbeaten egg

2 T. milk

1 tsp. vanilla

1 package of chocolate kisses

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. . Mix flour, soda, and salt. Set aside. Cream next 4 ingredients. Add the last 3 ingredients Mix well . Add dry ingredients gradually. Shape into balls and Roll into additional sugar. Place on an ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately place a chocolate kiss in the center. YUMMY!!!

Recipe #2 isn't a cookie but isn't a Chex Mix swap..so enjoy!!

Chex Muddy Buddy Mix (or in Texas we call this Puppy Chow)

9 cups of Chex Cereal

1 c. chocolate chips

½ c. peanut butter (**I have left this out for Presleigh and it is still great!!)

¼ c. margarine

¼ tsp. vanilla

1 ½ c. powdered sugar

Pour Cereal in LARGE bowl. Combine next 3 ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high 1 to 1 ½ minutes. Repeat in 15 second increments until smooth. Stir in vanilla. Then pour cereal and stir until coated. Pour sugar over “Coated cereal” and stir. Then store in an airtight container.

**This is a great gift giving treat. Place in a holiday tin lined with wax paper and your recipients will love you!!

Where have I been.....Part 2

Oh my, the last post was on the 24th. I left y'all thinking that we are still sick--SO many wonderful things have happenend since then. Actually, nearly a month has happened. It's amazing, some of my dearest friends blog everyday...I think about blogging everyday..Does that count??? Well, let me catch you up on all that has gone on. (However, I will skip the dailies of life- such as laundry, cleaning, cooking, taking and picking up girls at school and trying to put all things in their place---)

Halloween happened. Presleigh decided to be a CHA CHA Dancer. When we went trick or treating, someone called her Carmen Miranda. We went straight to google- She does look like her and was so happy to see her and all of her beautiful costumes. We had a great party for Presleigh's friends. It is amazing to me how some of these children had never bobbed for apples. I will let the pictures speak for them. They caught on real quick. The mummy wrap game is great...Lots of toilet paper but oooooh such fun!! The boys got carried away and teepeed (sp???) Presleigh's play house. Savannah was great- She still loves to dress up and help out. This year she was a Jeanie's "evil" cousin -from I dream of Jeanine. Next post will be on the fun getting ready fro Silver Bella and then the few pics and many memories I made while there. I promise I won't wait another month...maybe a few days!!

Lysol anyone?

Lysol anyone?? I just finished spraying Lysol disinfectant spray all around our house. Can you guess why??? The crud germs have found their way to our house. 3 appointments to the doctor yesterday and 1 trip during after hours indicated 2 with viral/sinus crud and 1 with a strep type infection that produced mammoth hives, fever, sore throat---Then today, hubby came home from a golf game with 101 temp....Looking forward to a fresh week with hopefully, well bodies and eager minds. On the bright side, while sitting with my youngest, I worked on some embroidery for a big project that must be finished by November 9th...It is a reward to work with our hands and to hold our loved ones close!! May the germs not find their way to your house and may this week be happy and healthy for all!!

where have I been.....

So sorry that my last post was in early September....So let me catch you up just a bit. Once my Art Event "Tidbits and Tassels" were over..I relished in all the fun and art that we had created for a few days. That came to a quick end when I was asked to do a "simple" project for the 3rd grade hall at our school...Decorate 5 enormous bulletin boards. My reply. .."Of course, I would love to." Indeed I did, but it was a huge undertaking but had a blast gathering and creating all of the symbols and of course painting a faux finish on butcher paper for the background. (Just a few pics of some of the boards!!!) And of course, in between getting these ready was the typical school work, swim team practice (for Savannah of course), a few doctor's appointments, teaching a Women's Bible Study(Tuesdays) and 3rd graders on Sundays, house cleaning (when it would fit) and getting ready to teach at Paper Cowgirl Altered Retreat which is tomorrow in Waxahachie, TX. Life is fast and fun...enjoy the ride!!!

Tidbits and Tassels - August 29, 2009

All I can say is WOW!! I can't believe our art event is over...I just finished cleaning up the studio. With the bits of paper and ribbon strewn all over the work table and trinkets here and there, I knew we had a great time creating together. Thank you to all of the wonderful, creative women that came to share the day with me. It actually started out on Friday night where a few of us were able to meet at Chili's (you know it is like no place else:))...It was fun waiting in the front area for women I had never met...and wondering how I would find them. I spotted creativity the minute they walked in the door!! For the next 2 hours we talked, laughed and ate and shared like lifetime friends. It was a great feeling!!

Saturday arrived with the coolest weather we have had to date...a nice breeze and low humidity (good hair day in Texas), we began creating for the next several hours. We once again, talked, laughed, ate and created. The tassels and alpha cards that were made were all beautiful and unique to the artist.

It was great to be with like-minded women who understand the ribbon-overload, the paper supplies that keeps growing ( it must be the water:), and the many trinkets, charms, and the pure joy of running your hands through typewriter letters to find just that right letter!! The sharing of supplies, knowledge and ourselves made this day one I will never forget!

Let me take the time to thank each one of you ladies that came. I was honored that you chose to spend the day with me. It was fun to be with all of you and I look forward to the next "Tidbits and Tassels"--Be looking for more info in the coming months. Until then, Happy creating in whatever genre you enjoy... Fall Paper Cowgirl - Come and create!!

Come join me for a Artevent-full day in Waxahachie on October 3rd. This event features 3 unique classes using different genres, different textiles, paper, ribbon, fabric,...you get the idea!! I will be one of the teachers for the day. We will be making a fabric cuff....I really like to call them fabric collages that you can wear on your wrist, hang for display, add to a journal cover...anything your heart and mind can imagine. We will focus on good technique as well as creative possibilities. To let you know a little about myself, here is a mini-bio (I think it is always hard to write about yourself)..So here is what I gave

Chantal Johnson has had her hands in the "art jar" since she was "une petite fille" ( a little girl) Her french-born and raised mother instilled a love affair with needle and thread, paper and crayon, paint and brush and the list goes on. She loves all things creative and has combined many mediums into her art and home. She has been published in Somerset Studio and is 9 time ribbon winner at our Texas State Fair (in the areas of embroidery, collage, decoupage and crocheting..just to name a few). She has also been published as a writer in devotional journals as well as an inspirational author for her church publications.

Her love of the arts is brought together with her love of teaching. For this fall Paper Cowgirl, she hopes to give the student a knowledge of good technique with freedom to create what is in the heart.

Chantal has been married to her wonderful husband, Scott for 23 years. They have 3 awesome children (19, 15, and 8). For Chantal, her children are truly the work of her heart!!

New beginnings--

We have started on a new journey with our girls. We decided to change from one private school (after the first day of school) to an awesome Private school just a little further away. So we ended up with another week of summer!! Change is never easy but almost always good!! We were led and guided the whole way by the LORD. I believe because we were seeking his will and where he wanted us to be so as best to serve him and lead our girls into a deeper faith and better environment, he honored our prays, our relentless searching and our quick, steadfast actions...he opened doors to some of the nicest people I have ever met. They didn't know us from any past or present settings. These Godly people knew we needed help. Heaven and earth was moved in less than 6 days to apply, meet, schedule and enroll our girls. Perhaps I can rest on the 7th??? In fact, Savannah (10th) boarded a bus today with all the 9th-11th graders for an overnight retreat..talk about loyalty and trust in the father...No cell phones, no text, no fb posts...I can't wait until 3:00 tomorrow when she walks off that bus. Pray without ceasing has been going on since 7:30 this am....I know her experience will be so much better than where she has been! Presleigh starts tomorrow...awesome 3rd grade!!! her teacher already met her today and told her she is excited to have Presleigh. Someone already loves my child....Life is good and filled with many twists and turns..Praise God!!

Tidbits and Tassels - an art gathering

I am so excited to announce the first Art workshop/gathering at My Studio on August 29th. Those attending will be participating in two workshops...although to us, this is definitely not work but play....Perhaps they should be "playshops"!!! This is a pre-Silver Bella event so we meet and get to know one another before the Awesome Silver Bella!! Silver Bella (a paper art event) will take place in Omaha hosted and created by Teresa McFayden. I am looking forward to meeting these sweet ladies who love to create and have fun!! It will be a time of food, fun and art. Hopefully this will be a start to many art gatherings...Hope you will be able to make it over to the studio and play!!

Summer is flying and we are having an awesome time here at "the Johnson Resort"...the name given by my sister. She was just here with one of her boys ...what a great time we had!! Our annual summer trip to Florida was earlier this month. It is a time we look forward to all year. These are a few pictures of our trip.

I am still working to move the studio. The french envy furniture came on Thursday, so it is time to really get things in place. My first art gathering is August 29th..I need to be ready!!! I hope this summer has many special moments that will become great memories that will last a lifetime!!

All I can say is YEAH!!!! Our major remodel is done...We have been enjoying the pool since May 29th. It took another 10 days to cure the plaster and then it became a salt water pool. I honestly didn't know how they would make it a salt water pool...chemicals, maybe?? Nooooooo, they just added 400 lbs of salt to the water and Voila..salt water. Did I feel a little silly!!! Our outdoor kitchen/living area is awesome. We eat nearly every meal outside and enjoy the view. Nature is back in our yard. I began a new herb garden with 17 lavender plants, 2 rosemary, basil, dill oregano, thyme and mint (in a pot, of course). My studio is in the process...we are waiting on furniture and are moving things each day. I am being inspired as I move things (that I forgot I even had). My goal is to have all the things that belong in the art studio in there before we leave for Florida on the 29th. Thanks for following the journey...It has only just begun!!!
